There are many mental health issues yearly because people hardly pay attention to their mental health. Taking care of your mental health should be high up on your list alongside taking care of your general well-being. People often think that athletes are happy people because they do what they love the whole day and have no need to do some thing by themselves. For example, college athletes can ask some fans “mate, please do my paper for me” and get one. Professional athletes get free stuff and recognition. But all of them are humans and all can struggle with mental problems. So below is the list of tips you can use to improve the mental condition, the athlete you are or not.

1. Value Yourself

The first thing to do is to see yourself as someone of value. Treat yourself with respect and kindness. Avoid criticizing yourself and make time for your hobbies. Do something to improve yourself, such as learning to play an instrument, planting a garden, etc. You have a life beyond the sport you play.

2. Care for Your Body

When you take care of your body, you can improve your mental health! Exausting prctices are not only what you can do for it.You can do this by:

  • Eating healthy meals
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Stretching
  • Getting enough sleep, etc.

3. Surround Yourself with the Right People

When you surround yourself with good friends and family members, you will be able to take lots of toxic feelings off your mind. Don’t concentrate only on your team, find people who can inspire you to live.

4. Give Yourself to Others

Volunteering your time and energy to help someone else helps you concentrate on other things. This leaves you with little or no time for self-loathing, plus you will be happy that you were the solution to a problem!

5. Deal with Stress

Stress is a part of life. But when you let it get to you, it could have long-term devastating effects. Hence learn to deal with stress by practicing any method that works for you. It could be journal writing, meditation, etc. Also, don’t forget to smile and see the humor in life.

6. Quiet your mind

Try some meditation practice, mindfulness, or prayer to quiet your mind. Meditation helps you feel calm and get better things from life.

7. Set realistic goals

There is nothing so distressing than setting a goal that you know is unrealistic. You can’t became world-class athlete in one day or even a year. While you should aim high while setting goals, always be realistic and don’t overwork yourself.

8. Break up some routines

Break up some of your routines and slot in some fun or adventurous thing to do once in a while. Plan a road trip, jog on a different route, try a new restaurant, etc. Just make sure you lighten up your tedious schedule once in a while. 

9. Don’t do Drugs and Alcohol Abuse

As much as possible, avoid drugs and alcohol abuse. Keep alcohol intake to a minimum, and never see these substances as a way out of problems. 

10. Ask for Help

When you need help, ask for it! Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, as many people perceive it to be. And remember, when you seek help, you can find solutions to your problems without much stress!
