Team USA vs. Team Kopitar Open Thread

After yesterday's intense 3-2 shootout win vs. Russia, Team USA (2-0-0) is on the verge of clinching a bye into the quarter-final round of the Olympic tournament. The only thing standing in their way is Anze Kopitar and Slovenia (1-1-0) at 7:30 a.m.

Assuming Dan Bylsma just needs to match the defensive pairing of Ryan McDonagh and Ryan Suter up with Kopitar and Team USA should have an easy victory.

Word out of Sochi is that Ryan Kesler may sit this game out  to rest his hand which he injured blocking an Ilya Kovalchuk yesterday. Which obviously means Derek Stepan could see his first Olympic action.

With Blake Wheeler's day to forget yesterday, Stepan may have been in the lineup anyway.

And if you still haven't had enough of the TJ Oshie show, how about this mashup with the movie "Miracle"….

And obviously we can only hope for another wrecking ball performance from Ryan Callahan this morning (via reader NH_NYR_88)…

…my apologies if I just ruined your breakfast.

Also today, Mats Zuccarello and Norway (0-2-0) look for their first win of the Olympics against Austria (0-2-0) (3 a.m.) to keep their fleeting chances of making it into the next round alive.

Meanwhile, Rick Nash and Team Canada (2-0-0) attempt to secure a bye into the quarter-finals with a win against Olli Jokinen and Finland (2-0-0) at noon.
