On Tuesday, I reported that the Hurricanes had sought permission to speak with Ulf Samuelsson about their head coach vacancy (he’s meeting with them today), now Darren Dreger at TSN adds that the Rangers assistant coach also interviewed with the Penguins about their opening.

Alain Vigneault stated on break-up day that the Rangers have not discussed a potential replacement for Samuelsson if he departs.
…Samuelsson has experience as well as relationships with both organizations, so I’d be shocked if he doesn’t end up behind the bench of one of these two teams very soon.
…i mentioned Beukeboom as a possible replacement for Samuelsson on Tuesday, but a wild card could be Brian Leetch, who is currently working in the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. Last summer, Leetch was ready to join Messier as an assistant coach if “The Captain” was named Rangers head coach last summer.
