According to New York Rangers website beat writer Jim Cerny, Brad Richards missed practice this morning, but will play in tonight's game at Yankee Stadium against the Islanders.
…did anyone else's heart skip a beat thinking about Richards not being eligible to be bought out this offseason if injured. Hey Glen, get that guy in some bubble wrap.
…in all seriousness, the gamble not to buyout Richards last offseason has paid off up until this point as he's been producing as well as leading a potent power play attack that has not been seen around these parts since Leetch and Zubov patrolled the blueline.
…still won't save him from being bought out this summer, but he's been a pleasant surprise this season.
Meanwhile, after practice Ryan Callahan reacted to the recent trade rumors which have included his name (via Bergen Record)…
“I know when you’re a pending UFA (unrestricted free agent) and the contract talks are still going on that there’s going to be rumors out there and that’s part of it,” Callahan said. “You worry about what’s going on on the ice and you concentrate on that and that’s all you can do.
“Nobody likes uncertainty,” Callahan said. “You’d like to know where you’d like to be and I want to be a Ranger so that’s definitely part of it.”
…canned response. Sure, Callahan wants to remain a Rangers, but only if it's financially beneficial for him.
