Brad Richards exploded onto the scene during his first season on Broadway back in 2011. On the ice it seemed like he scored a game winning goal every night, which helped propel the Rangers to the top of the standings. Meanwhile, off the ice, Richards was becoming a regular on the New York fashion scene and he began dating actress Olivia Munn, who Rangers fans felt was a good luck charm.
Manhattan literally became his playground.
Then it all came crashing down on him in mid January 2012 when Munn dropped the Rangers alternate captain like a bad habit (It's not you, it's me). Richards went into a tailspin as he went pointless in six straight, scored just one goal in the next 12 contests and his game has never been the same.
For those of you skeptical of the devastating impact this breakup had on Richards all you need to do is look at the numbers. In his first 39 games as a Ranger he scored 15 goals. In the next 88 regular season games after the breakup spanning until the end of last season he tallied just 26. And let's not even get into the horror show that was last year's playoffs.
However, something happened at the beginning of this season. Richards began to regain his scoring touch. Shots that were easily handled by goaltenders last season were now finding their way to the back of the net.
Some wondered if it was his rededication to the game, while others felt it was the hockey Gods smiling on a great player.
Apparently, it was neither. Yes, Richards has finally been able to mend his broken heart by dating Australian-born model Rechelle Jenkins this season and according to Pat Leonard at the Daily News the couple became engaged during the Olympic break.
Please don't cry Olivia. I'm sure you're much more attractive than Richards' fiancée…
Or apparently look like her identical twin. Welp, I guess if you can't date the real thing you find an exact replica.
Whatever, as long as Richards continues to perform, I could care less if he's with Munn or her stunt double.
So, my congrats to Richards on finally exorcizing the Munn demons and moving on to the next chapter in his life.
In case you were wondering, here's how Munn has been spending her time since hearing the news…
…hope this post gave you a welcome break from all the Callahan/Girardi nuttiness.
My thanks to reader Annoying Joe on being the inspiration for this blog post.
