According to Mike Morreale at NHL.com, the Rangers will participate in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City. Michigan from September 12-15.
Also participating in the tournament are the Sabres, Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Stars, Red Wings, Wild and Blues.
Last season, the Rangers prospects finished the tournament with a disappointing 1-3 record. However, Danny Kristo and Oscar Lindberg combined for 7g, 7a in the four games.
Players permitted to participate in the tournament are typically recent draft picks and rookies who don’t have much NHL experience.
…will be interesting to see if guys like Lindberg and Kristo will be chosen to participate again, or if the Rangers organization would rather have them focusing on earning a spot on the big club during training camp which opens on September 18th.
…college players are not eligible to play in the tournament so unless guys like Brady Skjei (Minnesota – 2012 – 1st), Boo Nieves (Michigan – 2012, 2nd) and Steven Fogarty (Notre Dame – 2011, 3rd) declare that they’re leaving their universities early, don’t expect to see them in this tournament.
…one guy I will be excited to see play is Anthony Duclair (2013 – 3rd), who had 99 points (50g, 49a) in 59 games for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last year. However, Duclair’s season was cut short due to a concussion, but he should be ready to go for the tournament. Here’s some Duclair highlights if you’re not familiar with him…
