Adrian Dater at the Denver Post reports that the Rangers have continued to scout the Avalanche even after the Michael Del Zotto trade as they had representatives at Colorado games last night and Saturday night.
The Avalanche have been said to have passing interest in Del Zotto, so the prevailing thought was the Rangers were scouting them for a possible return.
…the only two players I could possibly see the Rangers interested in are either Stastny or O'Reilly, but both seem like legit long shots. Stastny is a UFA at the end of the season, so I'm not sure why the Rangers would give up assets to obtain him when they can just throw a truck load of money at him in an attempt to sign him this offseason. As far as O'Reilly is concerned, all reports indicate that head coach Patrick Roy loves the guy, so I have no idea why Colorado would want to move him. Especially since they're in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.
…one wild card could be former Ranger PA Parenteau who was held out of the Avs game last night in anticipation of a trade with the Canadiens for Rene Bourque which Montreal backed out of at the last minute. While Parenteau's numbers have slipped slightly this season, he has really come into his own since signing with the Islanders in 2010. Having said that, I'm not so sure how much better he makes the Rangers and feel it would end up being if nothing else a sideways move. Parenteau has two more years on his contract that pays him $4 million per year.
There have also been past reports of the Rangers calling the Avalanche about the availability of defenseman Tyson Barrie.
…i have to assume the trade for Klein has quelled any Rangers interest in the Colorado defenseman.
