Rangers Re-sign Moore; Sign Glass; Richards to Blackhawks (Update: Brian Boyle Signs With Tampa)

Update, 5:45 pm:

Brian Boyle is the latest Ranger to land in Tampa…

Anton Stralman also signed with Tampa today at five years, $22.5M.

…damn, Callahan must have done some recruiting for Tampa.

…i know some Rangers fans might be upset that the money for Boyle wasn’t all that much more than Glass received, but this was all about Boyle wanting an increased role and AV not willing to give it to him.

Original Post:

…earlier in the day, I said I wanted two-years at $1.75M so you can imagine just how excited I am with this contract. Win/win for everyone. Great having Moore back in the fold.

Glass, who had 4g, 9a for the Penguins last season, can skate, plays with an edge, blocks shots and can assist on on the penalty kill. Unfortunately, his possession stats were some of the worst in the league finishing with a 39.3% Corsi last year which was 11.7% worse than the Penguins average.

Glass did play for Alain Vigneault in Vancouver, who had this to say about his new forward…

Unfortunately, Penguin fans don’t necessarily agree with that assessment…

…i’m not going to bury the guy before he even steps on the ice, but giving him a three-year contract seems irresponsible. Especially after trading a similar player with a similar price tag in Dorsett to open up cap space.

…having said that, he brings some grit and sandpaper that the Rangers were lacking at times during the regular season last year. Having him possibly on a line with Carcillo definitely makes the team a lot more intimidating.

And if that doesn’t convince you to get on board with Glass, how about this video of him beating up Asham…

While, I’m not sure today’s moves made the Rangers a better team than they were yesterday, Brad Richards looks to have put himself in a situation were he’ll likely be competing for the Cup again next season…

…seems like perfect landing place for him.
