If the Rangers are unable to compromise on an extension with Dan Girardi before the March 5th trade deadline, the likely route for Glen Sather will be to move the veteran defenseman.
However, Joe Haggerty at CSN New England says that the Rangers high asking price of a first round pick and perhaps a top prospect for Girardi will apparently keep the Boston Bruins, who have been reportedly interested in the 29-year old, away.
…with the Bruins losing Seidenberg, they're obviously looking for a defenseman, however, they really haven't suffered in the standings, so giving up a large package for essentially a rental probably isn't realistic.
…i'm really hoping Sather can work his magic with Girardi and get him re-signed at a moderate price. I'd really hate to lose a right-handed defenseman, who you can pencil in for 20+ minutes a night against the opponent's top line. Although, a return of a first round pick and a top prospect would be pretty sweet.
…with the way Girardi has turned around his season, it would be a blow to the Rangers chances of making a legit Stanley Cup run if Sather is forced to trade him.
