Rangers 4, Jets 2

Lundqvist ties Richter, Hagelin nets hat trick as Rangers win

The New York Rangers (36-28-4) defeated the Winnipeg Jets (30-29-9) by the score of 4-2, last night. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.

…amazing what happens when players go to the net. It creates havoc, you draw penalties, the defense gets back on their heels and yes, you score goals. All of which the Rangers did last night. Now AV just has to get his players to buy into it every game. It's not rocket science folks.

…looks like someone was motivated by the JT Miller whispers as Hagelin might have had the best game of his career.

…big time congrats to Lundqvist on tying Richter's wins record. Wasn't sure it was going to happen after Ladd's bad angle goal, but credit to Hank for hanging in there and battling against a very dangerous offensive team.

…it wasn't a goal, but let's hope that ridiculous assist from St. Louis gets him going.

…thought Maloney, who I've been loving with Micheletti out, made an interesting observation that Zuccarello looked like his hand was still bothering him, which was very apparent on a second period backhander that I could have saved.

…third straight game the Staal-Stralman pairing were a liability. Something needs to change there.

…there is no player on the Rangers more maddening than Nash. Nothing but good things happen when he goes to the net. Unfortunately, he decides to do it just once a game. For a big man, he plays way too soft.

…i'm not sure why the Rangers don't try that long off the boards play to Kreider more often. Thing of beauty.

…points in eight of the nine games since the Olympic break for Stepan. Maybe being a healthy scratch in Sochi WAS a great motivational tool for him.

…i mentioned yesterday that the Rangers personnel isn't built to grind out victories or out muscle their opponent, but if they can play aggressive and keep their feet moving on offense they can still be a dangerous team.

…back at it tomorrow with San Jose in town.

Rangers 4, Jets 2

The New York Rangers (17-15-2) defeated the Winnipeg Jets (18-17-2) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

…if the Rangers can play like this for the final 13 games of the season, they're going to be a dangerous team. Unfortunately, based on what we've seen this season that's a big "if."

…as was the case last season, when this team is cycling and has their forecheck going they're actually a very good offensive team. Absolutely baffling why they refuse to do it sometimes.

…on a night in which Stepan has two goals, I was most impressed with the save he made in the first period.

…Ryan Callahan could have the most under-rated skill set in the league. Doesn't get sweeter than that move on the shorty.

…it really is a privilege to be able to watch a player with Nash's talent on a nightly basis.

…i guess Tortorella's "Wheel of Line Match-ups" came-up aces tonight.

…can someone get Zuccarello a shorter stick so he can stop high sticking guys in the face? In all seriousness, it's no secret that I haven't been Zuccarello's biggest advocate, but he's changing my mind real quick.

…and Gaborik seems like the beneficiary of the Zuccarello addition as he's been flying and is finding the puck on his stick in a position to score more often then not. Now he just has to start burying his chances.

…did I actually see McDonagh and Nash stick up for Lundqvist when he was run into by Wheeler in the first period? Nah, couldn't have been.

…does anything exemplify Richards' struggles more than the absolute whiff on the second period opportunity with a wide open net and no Jets defender within 10 feet of him? Actually, yes. The missed empty net in third period, when he inexplicably tried to shoot the puck through Byfuglien instead of taking his time and just burying it.

…assuming the press release for Kreider's re-assignment to the CT Whale is already written for tomorrow morning.

…Rangers had given up a power play goal in six straight games, re-enter Powe into the line-up and the PK is a perfect 5-for-5. Also helps when the Jets have Perry Pearn behind their bench.

…who else am I forgetting? Hmmmmmmm. Oh yeah, Lundqvist. He was pretty good tonight.

…McDonagh with what could be a season saving play on the 5-on-3. If he doesn't intercept that pass it could have been game over right there. Instead Callahan ties it up with a short-handed goal and away they go.

…got to give the defense credit for bouncing back after a shaky first period which saw numerous Jets naked in front of Lundqvist. And seriously, it's time to call the Hamrlik claim a disaster and re-insert Gilroy on defense.

…five blocked shots and three hits for Girardi. Just another day at the office.

…home and home with the Penguins starting on Wednesday night at MSG. Doesn't get bigger than this folks.

Rangers 4, Jets 2

The New York Rangers (49-21-7) defeated the Winnipeg Jets (35-34-8) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a box score and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

…#1 team in the NHL on March 28th. Let that one sink in for second Rangers fans.

…it’s been awhile, but from the middle of the second period we finally saw the Rangers team that was so successful all season. Tough forecheck, suffocating defense and the ability to comeback.

…Ryan “Mother Effin” Callahan. Sole reason the Rangers came back in this game.

…so who’s this new high scoring power forward the Rangers recalled from the Whale? Wait…that’s Brian Boyle?

…didn’t realize Del Zotto hadn’t scored in 21 games. And he’s the Rangers scoring defenseman?

…Rangers special teams goes from horrific in Minnesota to terrific in Winnipeg. I’m sorry that was awful.

…can someone tell Bickel he’s not supposed to fight when his team is up a goal in the third period on the road.

…impressive game from Staal, who took a beating from the Jets tonight. Especially from Kane.

…congrats to Hank on win #250.

…sweet snipe by Stepan, who’s obviously been hanging out with Gabby.

…14-for-17 in the faceoff circle from Richards.

…off tomorrow then the Habs at MSG on Friday night.
