Rangers 3, Canucks 1

The New York Rangers (43-30-4) defeated the Vancouver Canucks (34-32-11) by the score of 3-1, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.

…i had this whole great opening statement about being impressed with the Rangers ability to gain two points despite not having their “A” game tonight and to be honest, after seeing the McDonagh injury at the end of the game, I’m really in no mood to celebrate. Looked like a shoulder and that it might be serious.

…and of course Girardi just stands there likely reminiscing about not responding when Carcillo pounded Gaborik. Thankfully the Rangers resident tough guy Zuccarello was on the ice to challenge Burrows.

…speaking of Carcillo…

…listen, I get the guy who injured McDonagh was kicked out of the game, but AV needed to send a message, not to the Canucks, but to the rest of the league that his team won’t idly sit by as one of their top players takes a cheap shot. The Rangers likely first round opponent the Flyers will absolutely take notice of the lack of response and use it to their advantage in the playoffs.

…damn, it kills me that I’m writing about this bullshit instead the Rangers gaining a big two points.

…Nash to St. Louis on the penalty kill for the former Tampa captain’s first goal as a Ranger in his 15th game. Just how we all drew it up when the trade was made.

…we Rangers fans worry about things like line combinations, the struggling power play and the lack of toughness, but as has been the case since he wrestled the starting job away from Kevin Weekes his rookie season, this team is going to live or die on  the shoulders of Henrik Lundqvist. If he’s on like he was tonight the Blueshirts are going to win and if he’s not they’re going to lose. It’s really that simple.

…i was worried about the fourth line’s chemistry with AV moving Moore up in the lineup, but I guess I should have been more worried about Moore’s game suffering without Boyle and Dorsett.

…Carcillo scores after being taken off top line, while Nash & Stepan combined for just one point without the tough guy after accounting for five points (2g, 3a) with him Sunday night. Can you say #carcilloeffect?

…seven short-handed goals in the last 15 games compared to five power play goals in the same time frame. That’s got to be some kind of record.

…wonder if Mike Sullivan was taking notes on that Pouliot power play goal. Filthy pass from Brassard.

…things I never thought I’d say back in November: Locking up Pouliot this offseason must be a priority for the Rangers.

…team record 25th road victory for the Rangers. Have to assume it’s a lot less stressful to play on the road then under the bright lights of MSG.

…hey Torts, how’d you think tonight’s game went? (via SB Nation)

…Rangers magic number is now three points.

…off tomorrow then four game Western trip ends in Colorado on Thursday.

Post game talk…
