Rangers 2, Flyers 1

The New York Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, tonight. The Rangers win the series 4-3. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.

…aaaaaaaaaaand exhale. At the end of the day, the better team won this series. If not for the special team struggles, the Rangers probably dispose of the Flyers in five or six games. But that would have made life too easy on us Rangers fans and we all know that can’t happen.

…i thought the Rangers top line set the tone for the entire game right out of the gates. They were able to establish the Rangers speed game and had the Flyers defense on the run from the drop of the puck.

…having said that, another doughnut for Nash. Listen, the biggest thing is that the Rangers won the game, but when Carcillo has lapped you twice in the goal scoring department there’s a problem. Hell, the guy who won the car in between periods tonight has more goals in the playoffs than Nash. That’s going to need to change if Rangers want to seriously compete against Pens. And I think it will if he continues to play the way he did tonight.

…damn, Vigneault had the Midas touch in this series. Every lineup move he made was a stroke of genius.

…and this latest decision to go with Carcillo may be the last one he needs to make until  Kreider is healthy because the agitator has been too good and had too much of an impact to sit now. Can’t wait to see him chirping Crosby and Malkin next series? #carcilloeffect

…i’ve definitely been overly critical of Stralman this season, but he, along with his defensive partner, were tremendous in all seven games and a big reason that the Flyers top guns were held at bay virtually the entire series. That series of blocked shots during the second period penalty kill totally put a smile on Torts’ face wherever he was watching tonight.

…so let me get this straight. If you spear someone in the junk no penalty. But if you get cross checked into the opposing goaltender you get penalized. Got it. If you think the officiating was bad in this series just wait until Crosby and the Pens start crying next round.

…not sure what was more impressive, Zuccarello’s sweet backhand pass to Carcillo or the hustle to negate the icing to clinch the victory.

…Brassard pass to Pouliot was just as ridiculous. Not sure I’ve seen two prettier passes this season than those assists. They were as good as any timing pattern in football.

…4-1 with a 1.25 gaa in Game 7s for Lundqvist, who still doesn’t have anything to prove in the postseason.

…anyone still think Boyle is soft?…

…the best part of the Rangers power play tonight was that we only had to see it once.

…zero goals for Hartnell in the series. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

…i said it earlier in the series, but I can’t stress enough how important it was that the Rangers coaching staff drilled into the players’ head not to get caught up in the emotion and potential ugliness in the series. It sure made the games a lot less passionate, but it was exactly why they were able to advance.

…we get tomorrow to stock up on booze and Xanax before the Rangers begin the Eastern Conference semifinals Friday night in Pittsburgh.
