Penguins Claim Pyatt; Konopka Placed on Waivers

According to the Rangers, the Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed Taylor Pyatt and his $1.55M per year salary off of waivers this morning.

The Rangers play the Penguins in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

…i can pretty much guarantee Pyatt scores against the Rangers tomorrow night.

…i guess the Penguins thought they were too fast? In all seriousness, the Penguins, who have been devastated by injury, got themselves a veteran presence in the locker room and makes their bench a lot deeper. I actually think it's a good pickup for them. Which eff'n pisses me off.

In other waiver news, the Minnesota Wild placed center Zenon Konopka on waivers (per Minneapolis Tribune).

Konopka is in the final year of his two year contract that pays him $925K this season.

…the Rangers just opened up some cap space with Pyatt being claimed, so I'd love to see them put in a claim request for Konopka. He was a guy I was begging for the Rangers to sign two years ago. Instead they went with Asham and we all know how that panned out.

…Konopka has been a major disappointment on the score sheet in Minnesota as he has a grand total of two points (1g, 1a) in 73 games with the Wild, but he would bring some much needed sandpaper to the Rangers lineup as well as being a major upgrade in the faceoff circle (63% the last two seasons) at a cheap price.

…i'd say Moore would likely be the odd man out if the Rangers claimed Konopka.
