NHL Draft Day 2 Open Thread

Hey, at least we get to watch the Rangers actually select players today instead of sitting at the draft table twiddling their thumbs.

BTW, how much of a kick to the nuts was it watching Tampa send the first round pick they obtained from the Rangers in the Martin St. Louis trade to the Islanders, who used it to grab Joshua Ho-Sang, who I was hoping beyond hope would drop to the Rangers in the second round. Grrrrrrrr.

Day 2 gets started at 10 a.m.

Here are the Rangers picks today…

Round 2 – Will pick 59th overall. According to Pat Leonard at the Daily News, this pick would have gone to San Jose if Rangers had re-signed Ryane Clowe (04/02/13). It also could have gone to Tampa as part of St. Louis trade if the Rangers didn’t advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Round 3 – Will pick 85th overall. Obtained from Canucks in trade for Derek Dorsett.

Will pick 89th overall.

Round 4 – Will pick 119th overall.

Round 5 – Obtained 122nd overall pick from Florida for prospect Casey Wellman’s rights on July 20, 2012.

Traded 149th overall pick to San Jose as part of the Clowe trade when Rangers didn’t re-sign him.

Round 6 – Traded to San Jose along with Tommy Grant for Brandon Mashinter on January 16, 2013.

Round 7 – Traded to the Kings for Dan Carcillo on January 4, 2014.
