Hurricanes seek permission from NYR to interview Ulf Samuelson for coaching vacancy. Oklahoma's Todd Nelson also still a Canes candidate.

…no surprise here as this has been speculated for weeks now. Samuelsson has a relationship with new Canes GM Ron Francis so this match makes sense.
…this is one of the downfalls of a successful season as your personnel becomes in demand. Samuelsson has been coaching at one level or another since 2003 including a head coaching gig with Modo of the Swedish Elite League from 2011-13, so this is the obvious next step in his career.
…it was a struggle for the Rangers defense this past fall as they felt their way around AV’s defensive system. But as they became more comfortable and Samuelsson adjusted to his players, the Rangers blueline became the catalyst for the second half and postseason surge.
…if Samuelsson ends up with the position, I’d have to assume another former physical Rangers defenseman, Jeff Beukeboom, would be at the top of the list as a possible replacement. Beukeboom has been the defensive coach in Hartford the last two seasons, so he should be familiar with the defensive game plan AV likes to implement.
