Free Agency Tracker (7/1/14)

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile you know how I like to cover the opening of free agency. Similar to the trade deadline, I will have one long post that will be updated throughout the day on every signing as well as any breaking Rangers news.

I also ask if you see something that I haven’t posted, please give me a heads-up in the comments section which I will be monitoring all day.

With the new server, I’m hoping for once the blog won’t blow up. We’ll see.

Refresh the page to see the most recent updates by clicking below button. The most recent update will be at the top of the post.

And away we go…

4:47 p.m. – Rangers signed D Matt Hunwick to a one-year deal worth $600,000. (Gross)

4:44 p.m. – Brad Richards to Chicago for one-year, $2M. (Dreger)

…great spot for him.

3:55 p.m. – Rangers sign defenseman Steve Kampfer to a two-way deal. Played in Iowa of AHL this past season. (McKenzie)

3:35 p.m. – According to Andrew Gross at Bergen Record it appears that the Rangers are done today.

…have to assume they’ll still sign a replacement for Pouliot. JT Miller seems to be the man who will be replacing Richards.

3:15 p.m. – Deryk Engelland to Calgary. 3-year deal worth $2.9M. (McKenzie)

3:10 p.m.With today’s moves, the Rangers have $15.2M of cap space remaining and four RFAs still to sign. Not a lot of wiggle room.

3:09 p.m. – Grabovski is apparently looking for five years, $25 million. (Bob Stauffer)

…Sather better not be in on that.

2:55 p.m. – Rangers announce they have agreed to terms with C Chris Mueller, 28, who split last season between Stars and AHL Texas Stars. (Bergen Record)

…Richards replacement? lol

2:53 p.m. – Devils sign Havlat to one-year, $1.5M deal. (NY Post)

2:43 p.m. – Update on Stralman contract as it’s five years, $22.5M.

…ok, that makes a lot more sense.

2:35 p.m.I actually thought Stralman would get way more per year than that especially after Orpik contract, but I’m much happier with only a two-year contract with Boyle than a five-year with Stralman. I just don’t like long term contracts. It’s a thing.

2:30 p.m. – Anton Stralman signs with Lightning 5 years at $4 million per. (Tampa Bay Online)

…what’s with the five year contracts for former Rangers? Sather very smart not to overpay (terms & money) for either Pouliot or Stralman.

2:25 p.m. – Vancouver signs D Bobby Sanguinetti $600,000 if in NHL. (Friedman)

…LOL!!!! What?!?!?! Bobby Sangs is still around?

2:23 p.m. – Jarome Iginla signs with Colorado for 3-yrs, $5.33M per. (McKenzie)

2:08 p.m. – Matt Moulson signs with Buffalo for five-years, $5M. (Friedman)

2:00 p.m.Glass signing is a bit confusing only because they got rid of Dorsett to open up cap space only to sign essentially the same player at almost the same money for more years.

1:53 p.m. – Rangers re-sign Dominic Moore for two-years, $3M. (NY Post)

…perfect!!!!

1:50 p.m. – Rangers sign Tanner Glass for three-years, $1.45M per. (Sportsnet)

…heart and soul guy, who isn’t afraid to throw his body around or block shots, but THREE YEARS? Will help on PK.

1:45 p.m. – Wild sign Vanek to three-year, $6.5M per deal. (Wild)

1:37 p.m. – Calgary signs Jonas Hiller to two-year deal with AAV of $4.5M. (McKenzie)

1:31 p.m. – Thomas Vanek apparently down to two teams.

1:25 p.m. – Jets signed Mathieu Perreault to 3 year, $9M  deal. (Renaud Lavoie)

…grrrrrrr.

1:23 p.m. – Capitals give Brooks Orpik 5-years, $27.5M.

…yeah, that Dan Boyle contract doesn’t look that bad anymore does it?

1:20 p.m. – Brian Gionta signs with the Buffalo Sabres. (LeBrun)

1:17 p.m. – The Panthers sign Shawn Thornton.

1:11 p.m. – Pittsburgh signs Blake Comeau to 1 year @ $700K and Thomas Greiss, one year at $1M. (McKenzie)

1:07 p.m. – Ales Hemsky has agreed to terms with the Dallas Stars (3yrs, $12M). (LeBrun)

1:06 p.m. – Ryan Miller signs with Canucks (3-yrs, $18M). (Kypreos)

1:05 p.m. – The Capitals sign Brooks Orpik (five-year, $27.5 million).

1:02 p.m. – Rangers gave Dan Boyle a no movement clause. (Friedman)

1:01 p.m. – Brad Stuart to Colorado for a 2nd round pick and a 6th round pick. (LeBrun)

12:59 p.m. – Joe Vitale gets a three-year deal from Coyotes, while Canadiens sign D Mike Weaver to 1-year deal.

12:57 p.m.Quickly on Dan Boyle. He is absolutely going to help the Rangers on the power play and his possession stats are still very good. Nice to see he took less to come to the Rangers which earns him a lot of respect in my book. Just concerned about signing a 37 (38 next month) year old defenseman. $4.5M per isn’t a killer, but means young guys going to be counted on to fill needs.

12:54 p.m. – Canadiens have signed defenceman Tom Gilbert to a two year, $5.6 million contract.

12:51 p.m. – David Bolland gets $5.5M over five years from Florida. (Chris Johnson)

12:50 p.m. – Dan Boyle apparently left money on the table to sign with the Rangers including a 2-year, $10M deal with Red Wings. (Helene St. James)

12:48 p.m. – 3 year deal for Mason Raymond and Calgary Flames. $9.5 mil total. (Dreger)

12:42 p.m. – The Rangers have signed Dan Boyle for 2 years, $9M. (NY Post)

…Sather asks his own guys for pay cuts then gives a 37-year old defenseman $4.5M per.

12:41 p.m. – Rangers sign Mike Kostka. (Bill Jaffe)

…sort of disappointing.

12:40 p.m. – Jussi Jokinen signs with Florida four years, $4M per. (LeBrun)

12:39 p.m. – Islanders sign D T.J. Brennan to a one-year deal. (Newsday)

12:30 p.m. – Brian Boyle also has at least one five-year offer. (NY Post)

…WTF?!?!?!

12:27 p.m. – Caps are ‘very close’ to landing D Matt Niskanen. (CSN)

12:25 p.m. – Milan Michalek has agreed to a three-year extension at $4 million per-season. (Garrioch)

12:22 p.m. – Islanders sign Chad Johnson two-years, $2.6M. (Newsday)

12:20 p.m. – Oilers also sign Mark Fayne to four-year, $14M deal. (Newsday)

12:16 p.m. – Oilers sign Benoit Pouliot to five-year, $20M deal. (ESPN)

…FIVE YEARS!!!! $4 MILLION PER!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12:14 p.m. – Rangers are not in on Mark Fayne or Ryan Carter. (Bergen Record)

…looking like Dan Boyle is Rangers main target.
