After sitting out the last two games as a healthy scratch, the Rangers have announced that Derek Dorsett will replace Dan Carcillo in the lineup tonight in Carolina.
Here's Alain Vigneault on why he made the move…
"We have a lot of games coming up here, and I wanted to get (Dorsett) in."
…i absolutely hate this move. And it's not because I think Carcillo is the better player, he's not, it's because he's the better fit. The fourth line has been a major bright spot for the Rangers since the acquisition of the former Flyers tough guy. He's had instant chemistry with Boyle and Moore and I'd hate to see that disappear.
…plus when Dorsett has been in the lineup he's had a panache for taking bad penalties, while amazingly Carcillo has been much more disciplined.
…listen, I get that AV wants to get Dorsett some playing time to keep him fresh in the event of an injury, but March is solely about gaining points, not making sure everyone plays. Plus Carcillo has much more playoff experience than Dorsett, so it's not like the former Blue Jacket is a better fit in the post season.
…here's a couple of stats for you. Since December 15th, the Rangers are 20-9-3. However, in the ten games that Dorsett has played in during that time frame the Rangers are just 5-4-1. Meaning, the Rangers have been a vastly better team without Dorsett in the lineup than with him. Obviously, that's likely just an anomaly or maybe it proves the lineup that AV has put on the ice the last two games is there best chance of making a Stanley Cup run.
…unlike his predecessor, AV has been very consistent with the lineup which is why I'm shocked with the move.
"I felt I was playing well, then I break my leg, now I am fighting for my job..All I can do is bury my head & keep working."
…sorry Derek, if Wally Pipp can lose his job to injury, so can you.
Henrik Ludqvist will get his sixth straight start tonight.
