If you’re a Rangers fan who hated Michael Del Zotto, you’re REALLY going to hate him now as the Philadelphia Flyers announced they have signed the former Blueshirt defenseman to a one-year deal.
Darren Dreger at TSN reports the deal is worth $1.3 million.
Earlier this offseason, the Nashville Predators decided not to extend a qualifying offer to the restricted free agent Del Zotto making him an unrestricted free agent.
This afternoon, news broke that Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen’s career might be in doubt after doctors discovered blood clots in his right leg and both lungs.
…obviously, the Timonen news basically forced the Flyers hand in signing Del Zotto. While Timonen’s health is the main concern in Philly, Flyers Nation has to come to grips with the fact that they’re a much worse team today than they were yesterday because of this major downgrade on the blueline.
…if Del Zotto could ever figure it out upstairs he still has the physical tools to put up another 40-point season, but God help him if he gets off to slow start as the Flyers fan base will have a field day with him. Word is Del Zotto has already begun unfollowing Flyers fans on Twitter.
…if you thought the boos for Del Zotto were bad at MSG when he wore a Rangers uniform, you can only imagine how bad they’re going to be when he takes the ice draped in orange. Although, with the way he plays defense maybe Rangers fans will finally have a reason to cheer him.
