During the course of their history, the New Jersey Devils have seen a number of key players bolt the swampland for the bright lights of Manhattan.
Bobby Holik, Scott Gomez, John MacLean and Bruce Driver just to name a few.
But it looks like Ryane Clowe might have swung the pendulum the other way as Randy Miller at NJ.com wonders if the Devils could make a run at Ryan Callahan this summer.
…as if Rangers fans weren’t already down on Callahan for forcing Sather to trade him due to his greediness, could you imagine the hatred and vitriol if he signed a contract with the Devils this summer?
…he would literally surpass guys like Sidney Crosby and Scott Hartnell as public enemy #1 for the Garden Faithful.
…the Devils have now missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season, so you know their new ownership will be looking to make a big splash this summer. And what better way to do that than sign a beloved player of their hated rival.
…as far as Callahan’s thinking. Why wouldn’t he seriously contemplate returning to the tri-state area? I’m assuming the idea of not relocating his family would be very attractive to him. Although playing in front of 10 fans a night probably isn’t a huge selling point for the Devils organization.
