The New York Rangers (35-27-4) lost to the Carolina Hurricanes (28-28-9) by the score of 3-1, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
…i'm not going to insult anyone's hockey intelligence by stating Dorsett was the reason the Rangers lost tonight. But what gets me upset is that with points at a premium, the Rangers lost without their best lineup on the ice to an inferior opponent, which falls directly at the feet of Vigneault. Chemistry trumps all.
…absolutely nightmare of a performance from the defensive pairing of Staal and Stalman. When they weren't giving the puck away, they were either out of position, over-committing or making terrible decisions. Sather is probably thanking Stalman for turning down that 3-year, $9 million offer right about now.
…Klein now has more goals (1) than Del Zotto (0) since the trade. Larcenous! He was also pretty solid defensively
…one point in four games as a Ranger for St. Louis. How many games do I have to wait till I can start criticizing him?
…so much for the Nash-Stepan-Kreider line breaking out as they combined for zero points and a -6 tonight. If the Rangers are going to compete with the Penguins and Bruins, this line needs to be more consistent.
…i obviously wasn't a fan of AV inserting Dorsett into the lineup, but he was easily one of the team's better players tonight. Which is a problem.
…one goal in the last 12 games and just two in his last 21 for Hagelin. Is Miller a better option?
…as has been the case all season, when the Rangers aren't skating and utilizing their forecheck the offense is non-existent.
…which is what scares me about this team. As the standings get tighter and tighter, the ice surface is going to get smaller and smaller as opponents take away the Rangers ability to use their speed. Do they have the players to grind out victories when they need to? Still not sure.
…the Rangers are now just three points from being out of playoff position, so leaving these two points on the table hurts. The desperation level of the Blueshirts' opponents is going to increase every game for the remainder of the season, so if they're not prepared to match it, as they weren't tonight, this season is going to end in major disappointment.
…having said all that, the Rangers have had a knack of bouncing back after a bad loss all season, so I expect a much better team in Minnesota on Thursday.
Post game talk…
