Zuccarello Does His Best Avery Impression

If we learned one thing during Sean Avery's tenure with the Rangers, it's that the best way to get Martin Brodeur off his game is to get in his face.

Well, I guess Mats Zuccarello was watching some old tapes of Avery before last night's game as he was on top of the Devils crease all night and even got into a shoving match with the future Hall of Fame goaltender. And his efforts eventually paid off as his distraction in front helped lead to Dan Girardi's tying goal late in the third period…

After the game, the MSG crew broke down Zuccarello's Avery impression here (2:44 mark)…

After the game Zuccarello brushed off any Avery comparisons (via New York Post)…

“Just a scrum, nothing special. Just the heat of the moment. Competitive guys battling. No big deal…it’s a rivalry. It’s a tough game to play. It’s going to get like that. I don’t know what to say.”

…listen, Brodeur got the last laugh as he was the difference in the Devils win, but I just love Zuccarello's feistiness. He won't back down from anyone and will do whatever it takes to win. Hope he's right back in Marty's face the next time these two teams get together.

…i know there was a bit of a debate on the blog yesterday about where Nash fits into the lineup when healthy, but I'm sorry, AV just can't move Zuccarello off that top line. Chemistry matters and that line has it.
