Was Del Zotto’s Elbow Dirty? (Updated: No Hearing)

Update, 11:27 a.m.:

…wait, Shanahan siding with the Rangers again (see Nash high hit). Quick someone check to see if hell has frozen over.

Original Post:
In the third period last night Michael Del Zotto dropped James Neal with an elbow that forced the Penguins forward to leave the game with a likely concussion…

Here's Del Zotto on the hit (via NY Post)…

“I knew I was going to get hit and I just tried to brace myself and reverse it. I’m not sure what happened, but I hope he’s OK.”

So the question is, was it dirty?

…absolutely not at all. Del Zotto had his head down and his back to Neal. Not sure how anyone can call that intentional. Unless you think Del Zotto literally has eyes in the back of his head.

…now having said that, as Del Zotto mentions he knew Neal was coming, and was obviously trying to block him off from the puck. So Del Zotto could have been penalized at the time for a wreckless elbow, but no way he's getting suspended for it.

…thoughts?
