…i don't know all that much about Vigneault, but he seems like a very intelligent guy who allows his players to play to their strength. Which is always a good thing. Too bad Torts didn't try that more often. Or at all.

Vigneault says he will employ the same zone matching strategy he used in Vancouver and feels the Rangers defensemen have the potential to joining the rush more.

While Vigneault didn't mention names, according to Charles Curtis at he wants two experienced assistance, one for the power play, one for the penalty kill, who are "upbeat and positive."

Vigneault says if everything he's heard about Ryan Callahan is true then he'll remain Rangers' captain (via Andrew Gross).

…i will organize a "Fire Vigneault" rally outside of MSG before a game is even played if he strips the "C" from Callahan.

Another interesting quote from Vigneault was that he met with Rangers assistant coach Mike Sullivan yesterday at the the practice facility.

…seriously, what is Sullivan still doing at the practice facility and why is he talking with Vigneault?

Glen Sather also spoke at the press conference stating that he had an original list of 13 candidates, which he narrowed down to nine, then interviewed Mark Messier and Vigneault in person as well as four others over phone.

Sather, who wouldn't discuss the future's of Messier or Brad Richards, did admit that the Rangers were going to begin employing the advance stat tracking which Vigneault is so fond of.

In a candidate moment, Sather says that John Tortorella was "maybe beyond stubborn" when it came to changing the Rangers style.

…if that's the case, he dug his own grave. Can't go against the GM.

Messier was not at the press conference.

…very disappointing that "The Captain" was not in attendance. Wonder if this was first sign of a crack in his relationship with the Rangers after being passed over.
