Torts Wants More Energy

After yesterday's practice John Tortorella addressed the team's effort during their 4-1 victory over the Islanders Thursday night…

“At times, it was OK. I really wanted to try to play four lines last night just for energy purposes. I still don’t think we’re playing with enough energy. With the combinations I had, I felt comfortable in doing that. Some were better than others. I’m not sure if they’ll stay together. We’re still trying to find that right mix as we go through here. I still think we need more tempo in our game. It wasn’t bad. I thought for a lot of the New Jersey game, we were better as far as flow through the neutral zone and our forechecking. We score some timely goals and it certainly wasn’t all bad. We just have to continue to improve.”

…when the Rangers were really struggling the first two weeks of the season, I refused to use the lack of training camp as an excuse for this team, but as I see the team gradually getting better and their game rounding in shape maybe there was something to that theory.

…now that we're almost a month into the season Torts has been able to assess the team make the proper adjustments to strategy or the line-up and it seems like he's finally got the right mixture.

Here's video of his entire presser as well as Dan Girardi discussing his injury…
