During a surprise optional skate this morning, Henrik Lundqvist announced that he won't be starting for the second straight game tonight.
…one thing I've noticed with AV is that he doesn't like to rock the boat when things are going well. Which I love and completely agree with. I don't care if it means the Rangers best player is stapled to the bench for a week, it's all about putting out a lineup that gives you the greatest chance of winning at that moment.
Lundqvist, who indicated that his neck is still stiff from being run over by Chris Kunitz on Wednesday night, wasn't surprised with Talbot getting the call against the Maple Leafs…
"We had a big win and its about winning."
…i do have to give Lundqvist credit for not turning this situation into a circus. He could have easily been a complete diva about being passed over for starts this season, but continues to be 100% professional. I guess counting all that money from his new contract makes it easier for him to do that.
Marc Staal skated for the third straight day including taking some shots on Lundqvist.
…i'm still not 100% convinced Staal is completely comfortable with his sight issues. He's had some major struggles this season offensively and defensively as evidenced by his just three points (2g, 1a) combined with a -7.
…should be interesting to see what happens to the defensive corps once Staal is healthy. It should have a lot to do with whether Del Zotto is traded or not.
