Everyone's favorite rumor-monger Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun is back in full force as he reports that in response to the Rangers rough start to the season, Glen Sather has been calling around for help on defense.
Garrioch floats Dan Boyle as a possible target.
While it's not out of the question that Sather might be inquiring about available blueliners, assuming Boyle isn't on that list anymore after he was taken off the ice on a stretcher last night…
…wow, players standing up for a teammate? Forgot what that looked like. Hope the Rangers were watching.
But I digress…
…listen, I get Garrioch is more miss than hit when it comes to rumors, but there's no doubt he has connections in the league and if you remember he was the first one on the Gaborik trade last season, so I have to respect what he's reporting.
…to the actual rumor, with the Rangers defensemen a combined -31 on the season, I'd be pissed if Sather wasn't calling around. Now do I think he's ready to strike a deal today? Absolutely not, but if the Rangers don't win at least two out of their next three very winnable games, I think all bets are off.
…from what I've read, AV still has a number of fans on the Canucks roster, so you wonder if Sather would look to trade for a Canucks defenseman (Hamhuis?) who could bring a working knowledge of AV's system to a defensive unit struggling to implement it properly. I know a certain Rangers defenseman whose name rhymes with Birardi that Torts would love to have back blocking shots on his blueline.
