Update, 3:30 p.m.:
Glen Sather discussed the trade during a conference call…
"He's going to fit in our system very well. The coaches know him, know what they are getting, know how he plays" (Rangers Twitter)
"Having player of (Klein's) caliber under contract to 34 makes sense, especially w/the way the market’s going." (Zipay)
On Del Zotto:
"he's had a couple of interesting years…it didn't work out the way we planned." (Gross)
Alain Vigneault added this on Del Zotto:
"Michael was alright, played some good hockey. I was expecting a little more offensively … Lately he had been better." (Leonard)
Vigneault added that Klein adds some bite.
Klein will wear #8 and will play tomorrow night vs. the Blues.

…great point by Sather on Klein's contract. With the way they're spiraling out of control Klein is going to look like a bargain in two years.
…the more I'm reading about Klein the more I'm loving this trade. Damn you Sather making me praise you!!!!!!
According to numerous reports the Rangers have traded Michael Del Zotto to the Nashville Predators in exchange for 6-1, 200lb right-handed defenseman Kevin Klein.
The 29-year old Klein, who is in the first year of a five year deal worth $2.9 million per, has just 1g, 2a and is a -11 in 47 games this season.
…welp, we've all been asking for it, so here you go.
…Klein is basically the complete opposite of Del Zotto. A very sound, top four defenseman who will provide zero offense. I'm not sure how I feel about bringing in a 29-year old in the first year of a five year contract, but make no mistake about it, Klein makes the Rangers a much better and harder team defensively. Plus he's right-handed, which is big need on the Rangers blueline.
…as far as Del Zotto goes, it's really sad to see him leave with such unfulfilled expectations. I still wouldn't be shocked if he figured it out somewhere else, but as I said many times on this blog he wasn't going to turn things around in a blueshirt.
…also wonder what bringing in a right-handed defenseman with a number of years left on his contract means for the future of Dan Girardi.
