The Rangers have announced that they will hold a press conference tomorrow at Radio City Music Hall starting at 11 a.m. to officially announce that Alain Vigneault has been named the 35th head coach in franchise history.
The press conference will be carried live on MSG.Network.
It is rumored that Vigneault's contract is for five-years, $10 million.
…with the Stanley Cup Finals in a mini-break until Saturday, you have assuming the reason for waiting till tomorrow to announce Vigneault had to do with not wanting to take the focus off of the Bruins and Blackhawks. Unless of course the Rangers wanted to finalize the assistant coaches as well so they can announce the entire coaching staff at once.
Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports says that initially Vigneault was leaning towards accepting the Dallas Stars position, but ultimately felt the Rangers gave him a better chance to win a Stanley Cup.
…definitely the smart move by Vigneault as the Rangers are built to win now, while it seems like Dallas won't be a serious Cup contender for years.
…i'm very impressed that Vigneault took the more challenging of the two options. He could have easily gone to Dallas and tried to build a team in anonymity, but he decided to come to the pressure cooker that is New York and take on the challenge of trying to lead a team with high expectations to the promise land.
