The #NYR have agreed to terms with defenseman Samuel Noreau, the team's 5th round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft
— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) May 31, 2013
Noreau had 7g 25a and was a +19 in 66 games this past season for Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
…the 6' 5" Noreau obviously has some size and has grown into a pretty decent shutdown defenseman. Still has to work on his hockey sense (see Del Zotto), but nothing wrong with a little size on defense. Despite the size, I wouldn't expect him to morph into the next Chara.
Meanwhile, Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that 2011 draft picks RW Shane McColgan (5th round) and D Peter Ceresnak (6th) were not offered contracts today and are now eligible for June 30th draft.
McColgan had 19g, 47a in 69 games with the Saskatoon Blades this season.
The deadline to sign 2011 CHL draft picks is tomorrow.
…McColgan has been a bit of a disappointment as he hasn't lived up to the playmaking ability that led to the Rangers drafting him. Standing at just 5' 9", I'm assuming his lack of size hurt him with a Rangers organization (and most of the NHL for that matter) that has committed itself to developing and drafting bigger stronger players (see Kreider, Miller and McIlrath).
