Rangers Not Beating the Top Teams

A dubious Rangers stat that has been making its way around Twitter recently is that after their loss to the Senators Thursday night they are now 4-11-1 against playoff teams this season.

Conversely the Blueshirts are 12-3-2 vs. opponents currently on the outside of the playoff bubble looking in.

…very hard to make-up ground in playoff seeding when you can't beat the teams in front of you in the standings.

…and I know I'm beating a dead horse, but last year's team was able to compete with the Penguins and Bruins of the hockey world because they would outwork them. Very rarely did you walk away from a game and feel that team didn't give their all. This year, the Rangers seem unmotivated and almost disinterested when matched-up against the better teams in the Eastern Conference. It completely baffles me how the Rangers can come out so flat in games that mean so much. You'd think their competitive instinct would kick in when they see a top team like the Senators taking warm-ups at the other end of the rink. I'm really at a loss with this team.

…but it can all change if they can play an inspired game and exorcize their demons with a big win in Montreal tonight. And the way to do that? Match the Habs physical play from the drop of the puck.
