Rangers Make First Round Of Cuts; Lineup vs Devils Announced

The New York Rangers have cut 14 players prior to tomorrow's pre-season game against the Devils, leaving 46 players on the roster.

These cuts were formalities for the most part. None of these players had a legitimate shot of earning a roster spot to start the season. If we want to reach for a notable cut then it could be viewed as a mild disappointment that Kyle Jean was unable to make it into a pre-season game. Of those returning to juniors only Duclair, Donnay, and Graves are Rangers property.

The Rangers also announced the lineup for tomorrow's pre-season game against the Devils.

Kreider has been on a line with Richards and Nash to start training camp and it looks like Vigneault will continue to keep those three together. With Callahan and Hagelin set to miss time the Rangers will need one of the younger players to step up, and Kreider has shown flashes of being capable. Kristo and perhaps even Hrivik could also earn a winger spot due to the injuries. Of those playing on defense only Staal, Moore, and Del Zotto are guaranteed a roster spot. Vigneault claims that Talbot is part of the goaltending competition after a solid AHL campaign last season so it will be worth monitoring how he fairs against some NHL caliber players.
