Rangers Gathering Intel on Stewart

Darren Dreger at TSN reports that the Rangers are gathering intel on St. Louis Blues forward Chris Stewart.

The 26-year old Stewart, who has one-year remaining on his contract that pays him $4.15M per year, has 15g, 10a this season.

Dreger adds that a trade of Stewart for Ryan Callahan would be a sweet deal for the Blues.

Stewart played a season-low 5:32 against the Islanders and was dropped to the fourth line against the Devils this week.

Stewart had 36 points in 48 games last season.

…yeah, sweet deal for the Blues, not so much for the Rangers. Don't get me wrong, Stewart is a solid player, but he's no Callahan.

…man, if Sather feels he won't be able to re-sign Callahan, I hope he's able to get a better package than just Stewart. Add in some picks and/or prospect and I'd be much more interested.

…as far as Stewart goes, I think he'd be a nice piece as he adds some size, toughness and scoring punch, so I'd have no problem with the Rangers acquiring him, but not at the cost of Callahan or even Girardi. He's been very inconsistent this season, so maybe a change of scenery would do him good.
