After last night's 4-1 loss to the lowly Flames, Alain Vigneault spoke with Steve Zipay at Newsday about the Rangers play on defense…
"We've got certain reads to make; I don't want to say our guys are fighting it, but it's not coming instinctively. And our execution — we turned that puck over so many times in the first period — here were real good players turning the puck over."
Vigneault added that the long layoff between games was the likely reason for the team's rust.
…the last thing I'm about to do three games into the preseason is panic, especially when Callahan, Stepan and Hagelin have yet to step on the ice in a game, but this team has looked lethargic in two of the three preseason games. Especially the Kreider-Richards-Nash line. I need to see much more from them. I'm still waiting to see the new and improved Richards I keep hearing about.
…as far as the defense goes, I guess the team is going to "fight it" when instead of McDonagh-Girardi in the line-up the Rangers have Bickel-Falk.
