Rangers Don’t Come to the Aid of a Fallen Teammate Again (Update: Brouwer Not Suspended)

Update, 12:38 p.m.:

Original Post:
I really didn't want to post this because I hate to diminish any of the positive energy still floating around here from last night's big win in Washington, but I feel I have to.

Just 47 seconds into the second period last night this happened…

Yes, the second blow to the head of a top Rangers player in an eight-day span. And as was the case after the Brad Stewart high hit on Rick Nash, here was the Rangers reaction…

Ok, that's a photo from the Rangers preseason game in Vancouver, but you get the picture.

Luckily for the Rangers, Stepan did return and was able to finish the game. Stepan said numerous times post game that he was "fine" and added this (via Bergen Record)…

“Yeah, it’s part of the game, it happens,” Stepan said. “I feel fine so that’s the good thing. Obviously I never saw him coming. I can’t sit here and say if he did one thing or another. It happens, it’s part of the game. He said something to me on the ice that he didn’t see me. That’s part of it, whatever."

Here's Vigneault's thoughts on the hit after the game…

“I just looked at the replay there. If he couldn’t see him, I don’t know what else he was looking at,” said Vigneault. “Obviously the principal point of contact was the head, so we’ll see.”

…seriously, where is this team's balls? Listen I'm happy the Rangers exacted revenge by winning the game, but the lack of a legit response (I don't care if Brouwer's hit was an accident or not) is becoming disheartening. I get that the game was still up in the air at that point and handing the Capitals top ranked power play an opportunity to cash in because of an instigator penalty probably isn't smart, but sometimes you just have to stick up for a teammate. To me, those are the penalties you can forgive and hopefully the pk steps up to kill off.

…in the last nine months we've seen Nash knocked out twice, McDonagh run from behind, Biron run over and now this. And not one of those incidents elicited a response from the Rangers. NOT ONE! And it will continue to happen until the Rangers make a stand. I don't care that the Pouliot and Zucc were the other two forwards on the ice, they needed to go right over to Brower and punch him in the face. Or in Zucc's case, bite him in the ankle. I can guarantee you this, once the Rangers begin to stick up for one another, these incidents will cease.

…and I have to ask, is AV against fighting? Because after Falk did this in this first period…

…i think he only saw about three shifts the remainder of the game. In other words, he was Bickel'd.
