Rangers 3, Flyers 2

The New York Rangers (1-1-0) defeated the Philadelphia Flyers (1-2-1) by the score of 3-2 in their second preseason game, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

…now that's the offense I was hoping to see under AV. Lots of puck possession, defenseman joining the play and a good forecheck.

…so much for Arniel ruining Brassard.

…really excited about what I saw from Lindberg and Fast, who were not overwhelmed at all by their first NHL action. Great chemistry between the two. I think both have a leg up over guys like Kristo and Hrivik to fill in for Cally and Hags.

…McIlrath = Jessiman.

…amazing what a little competition will do as Biron was very solid tonight. He's got to be the frontrunner to retain the backup position. Although Talbot had his second straight impressive performance in relief.

…hoping beyond hope that Pouliot finally figures it out with the Rangers the way Brassard has. Remember when player's careers used to fall apart when they came to the Rangers? Now the opposite seems to be happening. You know, minus Richards.

…while I liked Dorsett's response to Hartnell almost taking Moore's head off (should have stabbed him with his skate), I'm still not convinced he's enough of an imposing figure to deter teams from taking liberties with the Rangers skill players. Not sure if Haley is that guy either, but he brought a much needed physical edge.

…not sure about you guys, but I'm not a fan of the hybrid icing. I know it's for the safety of the players, but hockey is a dangerous game. Just let them play.

…not looking forward to seeing Lecavalier in orange and black four times this season.

…with Miller out nursing a hamstring, Yogan is taking advantage of the opportunity. Still a long shot, but nice to see.

…nice goal Powe. Your reward will likely be a one way ticket to the Hartford Wolfpack to open up cap space for Stepan.

…not all good as the Rangers still remain goalless on the power play in the preseason.

…Girardi with just ONE blocked shot tonight. Man his body must be loving the coaching change.

…8-for-12 on faceoffs for Moore tonight, who won a big one late. He's going to have a huge role taking defensive faceoffs this season.

Rangers 3, Flyers 2

The New York Rangers (23-9-4) defeated the Philadelphia Flyers (22-11-4) by the score of 3-2, tonight. For a boxscore and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

…despite every effort by the refs to get this Winter Classic into overtime the Rangers gutted out an impressive win. No matter where this team plays or under what circumstances, they are going to give maximum effort to the final buzzer and it was on full display today.

…what a weekend. Wish the Rangers were involved in this every year. Not sure Torts would agree.

…between the Kopecky beatdown and his two goal today, Rupp has quickly made himself a fan favorite. Jagr salute didn’t hurt either.

…so this Richards guy is pretty clutch, huh?

…refs forgot that no matter how one-sided they tried to make it, the Rangers still had Lundqvist in goal. Hank is an outwardly emotional guy during the game, but you could tell by his reaction to his save on Briere that he really wanted that one.

…while he only got 12 minutes of ice time, it was real great seeing Staal out there again.

…i know Stepan wants to get the puck in the hands of the Rangers best scorer, but shoot the puck kid.

…thought that might have been Prust’s best game all season. See what happens when he doesn’t fight.

…no fighting majors? Assuming under different circumstances that wouldn’t have been the case.

…got to feel for Woywitka being a last minute healthy scratch in this one.

…wasn’t a huge fan of Rangers Winter Classic jersey when originally unveiled, but they looked spectacular during the game.

…off the next two days then Panthers in town on Thursday.
