The Boston Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers taking the series four games to one. For a box score, click here.
Excellent first 20 minutes and 1-0 lead at the break was a terrible, awful tease for the final 40 minutes of play to come. Second and third periods chock full of defensive mistakes, bad breakouts and uninspired play. No desperation, no heart, no will to send this game back to NY for Game 6.
If the Rangers are still playing this late into calendar year next year, someone have the NHL not to schedule a game for May 25th. Armageddon day for two straight years.
Ironic that the final and only goal today came on the power play.…
Those two neutral zone turnovers by Hamrlik are likely going to be the last time he plays professional North American hockey.
Say what you want about Del Zotto as well, he's been brutal for the better part of two months. "Giveaway by Del Zotto" was probably said more than "SAVE BY LUNDQVIST" today…. ok, not really… but close.
The name 'Torey Krug' is going to haunt me this summer. Primary reason this series only went 5 games. That roster spot once belonged to Wade Redden…
Again, I'm going to criticize Callahan for not stepping up when his team needed him the most. The Captain's third period breakaway to tie the game could've erased a lot of doubts. Instead, it was the final decent scoring chance the Rangers had.
Tortorella declined a second intermission interview with NBC. Whatever he said to his team before the third period fell on deaf ears. Concerning to say the least…
A lot of decisions and question marks heading into the offseason that will be heavily discussed. McDonagh, Stepan are getting raises, questions about Staal's long term health and if he'll even be ready for camp. The curious case of Brad Richards and his potential buyout. Tortorella will be starting the 2013-14 season on the hot seat, what of Mike Sullivan, whose time directing the Ranger power play to the bottom of the Hudson River over the last 3+ seasons can easily be scapegoated and handed his pinkslip in the coming days.
Still, a couple positives heading into next season, namely full seasons from Brassard and Moore. Kreider finished his up and down season on a high note. Zuccarello coming over from Russia and proving immediately that he belongs. Not all doom and gloom heading into next year which some (including myself) have pegged to be "the year" for the Rangers….
Where were you Staal???
