According to Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun, the Rangers could be one of as many as four teams to 'make a push' at acquiring Habs' defenseman PK Subban. Garrioch states that Detroit, Philadelphia and Winnipeg could also be interested in acquiring the young defenseman's services if/when Habs GM Marc Bergevin makes him available. Subban reportedly is looking for a 5 year contract, north of $4 million per year.
Not to discredit Garrioch or his "sources", but I don't think the Rangers are serious players to acquire Subban's services for a variety of reasons with next year's reduction in salary cap space and the Rangers' need to sign their own RFA's (McDonagh, Hagelin, Stepan) as primary factors.
Sounds to me if Subban is put on the trade block, the Rangers will be involved only to drive the price up on Philly who are far more desparate to obtain a player like Subban than the Rangers are.
