A day after Larry Brooks at the New York Post reported that the Rangers had no interest in Colorado's RFA Ryan O'Reilly, Pat Leonard at the Daily News says the Blueshirts are in fact interested in the Avalanche center.
O'Reilly has 39g, 68a in three seasons with Colorado.
…the Rangers are going to be in cap hell the next few years so signing O'Reilly to a lucrative deal doesn't make sense. Now obviously they'd be sending players back (think Stepan or Miller), but O'Reilly's demands will likely be more than both of them.
…plus O'Reilly and Stepan have had virtually identical stats the last few years, so why would the Rangers swap essentially the same player? They should continue to develop Stepan, who has been rejuvenated since Nash was put on his wing.
