Miller Has Some “Bite”

In just his second NHL game, Rangers 2011 first round pick J.T. Miller did this during the Rangers 4-1 win vs. the Islanders last night…

Here's John Tortorella's thoughts on Miller…

"He's got some bite to him. I'd rather have a guy you need to tame a little bit as he's learning to be a pro than to try and get someone to play with some spunk like that. I like the way he carries himself. He's got some good strut to his game. We just got to make sure he doesn't cross the line the other way. And he's done that a few times along the way."

…there's been a lot of talk about the lack of swagger on this team. Who knew that it would be a 19-year old rookie who brings it back. Just watching him out there you can see the confidence he has in his abilities. Whether it's smacking his stick on the ice calling for the puck or stick handling through two defenders he's got a cockiness about him that up until this point I'm loving.

…now listening to Torts at the end of his comment mention Miller crossing the line a few times does have me concerned about how that arrogance will be perceived when things go wrong, and they will go wrong, but he couldn't have a better coach to teach him how to be a professional.

…almost more excited about Miller than Kreider right now. Which I didn't think could be possible last spring. And will likely change when Kreider has a two goal game next week.

Miller was also 5-for-8 on faceoffs.

Here's video of Torts and Miller's pressers…
