Kreider Scores Twice in Whale Loss

Chris Kreider scored his third and fourth goals in three games since being assigned to the CT Whale, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Rangers AHL affiliate lost to Portland 4-3 in a shootout last night.

Kreider's first tally of the night was with the extra man, making three of the four goals he's scored on the power play. Kreider did miss his shootout attempt.

Kreider had just five goals in 33 games with the Whale during the lockout.

Here's video of the goals (1:53 and 2:48 marks)…

…i love that all four of his goals since being assigned have been from in front of the net. One aspect that was lacking in his game was toughness, so it's nice to see him aggressively going to the net and outmuscling the opponent for some dirty goals. Confidence level must me through the roof.

…assuming there will be pressure on the Rangers to bring Kreider back up, especially with Richards ailing, but the best plan is to let him continue to work on his game and then as they get closer to the playoffs evaluate how he's progressed and if he can be an asset to the team. Kreider could end up being better than any trade deadline option available for the  Rangers. Plus they won't have to give up anything to get him.

FYI, Brandon Mashinter scored in the shootout.
