Kreider Likely to Replace Clowe

During today's brief practice, Chris Kreider was the first guy on the ice and and the last off as he did skating and shooting drills on his own, likely preparing himself to re-enter the Rangers line-up in Game 6 tomorrow for the injured Ryane Clowe, who did not practice today along with Darroll Powe (concussion).

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record notes that John Tortorella said the coaching staff would pick the “best player we can” and that Clow'e replacement wouldn’t necessarily have to be a player with a similar rugged style.

…with the Rangers in desperate need of offense I can't see how Torts doesn't turn to Kreider. Now, if Torts sticks him on the fourth line and only gives him fives minutes it really doesn't matter who he puts in. But I'd love to see the Rangers head coach get him on a line with Brassard and Nash and see what happens. That's a whole lot of offensive talent on a team screaming for some goals.

Meanwhile, Marc Staal practiced with the team today, but said nothing has changed with his status and that he wishes it would be different but its not.

…it is so disgusting how much the Rangers miss him in this series. And not even because of his defense, it's because of his ability to move the puck through the neutral zone and actually get the Rangers the puck in the Capitals end. Which obviously they're not doing enough of in this series.
