Kreider Just Trying to Make the Team

Chris Kreider talked with Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record after his first day informal practice with his Rangers teammates about his expectations this season after he exploded on the NHL scene in the playoffs last year…

“Same thing as it always has been, keep my head down, work hard and try to make the team. That’s all you can do. Slate’s wiped clean and you have to earn your spot."

Kreider also discussed his lack of production for the Whale this year (5g in 33 games) and the coaches feedback…

“Just to concentrate on what I can control. Which is winning puck battles, getting pucks out of the zone and finishing checks. I let everything else take care of itself but if you do that and play an honest game, the chances come.”

…i say it all the time on the blog, the only thing more impressive than Kreider's skill level is his maturity. The kid basically single-handedly jumped started the Rangers offense in the playoffs last year, but is humble enough to know nothing is given to you in the NHL and everything is earned. It is very refreshing to see this attitude from a young athlete these days.

…as far as Kreider's lack of production, if he continues to work hard and dedicates himself to getting better everyday he will find the back of the net more often than not.
