The New York Rangers (14-14-0) lost to the Winnipeg Jets (13-12-4) by the score of 5-2, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
…the only thing consistent about the Rangers is their inconsistency. It's amazing how they can play such a spirited game on Saturday and come back with such a clunker. I guess we should have expected a bit of a letdown after the emotions of the Canucks win, but I don't understand why this team can't create momentum from game to game. Frustrating.
…shortest goaltending controversy in the history of the NHL.
…having said that, Lundqvist wasn't the problem before tonight and Talbot wasn't the problem tonight. This is a flawed lineup that lacks steady scoring and toughness. And that falls on Sather.
…it was so quiet at the Garden tonight, you could actually hear Lundqvist snickering on the bench.
…anyone but Jokinen.
…nice to see a Callahan sighting tonight. Still not enough from the Rangers captain, who has been among the team's biggest disappointments this season.
…last year's success after the trade from Columbus is looking more and more like a mirage for Brassard.
…thought Del Zotto skated well and was aggressive with his shot, but at the end of the day he was a -3 and missed the net by three feet on a wide open shot that came back the other way and ended up in the back of the Rangers net.
…terrible job with the puck tonight. They refused to get it deep, which led to turnovers and lots of odd man rushes against. Impossible to win games doing that.
…on a positive note, I did like that both Rangers goals came as the direct result of players going to the front of the net. Not sure why they refuse to do it more often.
…midway through the game someone should have told Kreider that Tortorella was coaching Winnipeg tonight.
…i never want to blame the refs for a loss, but are they kidding me with that no call on the Stepan breakaway? You just knew it was going to come back to bite the Rangers.
…Richards is playing like a man who wants to be bought out at the end of the season as his miss on a wide open net in the third period leaves him with just one goal in the last 14 games.
…anyone else think Falk was a better fighter than that? Guy caught a Boyle-like beating.
…Rangers were out shock blocked 21-to-4. That's all you need to know about their compete level tonight. Baffling how this team can just go through the motions out there. AV needs to figure out how to motivate these guys on regular basis, because what's he's doing right now isn't working.
…two days off then the up to Buffalo for a date with the Sabres.
Post game talk…
