When I first started The New York Rangers Blog back in 2007, it was out of my love for the Rangers. I wanted to create a one-stop shop for Blueshirt fans to get their Rangers fix. Updates, stats, rumors and more in one easy to find spot. There was nothing similar available and I felt Rangers fans deserved a blog with the same dedication and commitment they had.
Along the way, I learned a lot about social media and how to use it to promote the blog and make the experience on the site more enjoyable. A passion for making a career out of it began to build. I wanted to make a living doing this for a professional sports franchise.
So, a year and half ago I began applying to local teams for a position on their social media department.
And finally last month, after lots of rejection I was finally approached by a franchise about possibly running their social media team. A couple of interviews later I was offered the job as the Director of New Media.
Now comes the apology part. One of the stipulations the team made before hiring me was that I had to shut the blog down because of the conflict of interest. What conflict of interest you say? Well, the job is with the New York Islanders.
I'll give you a second to let that sink in. Yes, the creator of The New York Rangers Blog, is in fact now an employee of the rival Islanders (sorry not allowed to call them Fishsticks anymore).
There's nothing else I can really say other than I hope you can forgive me. Sometimes life takes you in a weird direction. I hope you all understand that my family comes before the blog and the financial stability this job offers is something I couldn't turn down.
I have informed Adam, James and Neill about my decision and they felt the best thing would be shut the blog down. And regretfully, I agree.
I know last year I said I was closing up shop, only to return a month later. But this time, unless I get fired, it will sadly be permanent.
This blog has been my life the last five years and without you, the greatest fans in the world, none of this would be possible. So, before I signout for the last time, I just wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Oh, and one last thing, Let's Go Rangers!!!!!!
