Hamrlik Not Given Chance in Washington

Katie Strang at ESPN.com spoke with newest Ranger Roman Hamrlik after his first practice with the Blueshirts about why he only dressed in four games for the Capitals this season…

"There's been lots of changes over the summer with the coaching staff in Washington. I wish … they would've given me a little more of a chance to play hockey but it's in the past and I'm looking more ahead. It is what it is."

…Hamrlik's numbers really fell off last year as he had a career worst 13 points (2g, 11a) in 68 games. I did think he was pretty solid in the seven game series against the Rangers last post season, but I'm not so sure an aging, declining, $3.5 million a year defenseman deserves more of a chance. Having said that, I'm hopeful the trade gives him a shot in the arm and he takes advantage of this new lease on life to help the Rangers.

Here's video of Hamrlik discussing his feelings on being claimed by the Rangers…
