Among the numerous Rangers players scratching their heads after the 6-0 whitewash to the Ducks last night was Dan Girardi, who offered this assessment (via AP)…
"If we play this way, we're going to be in deep trouble," Girardi said. "We've just got to figure out what the heck is going on and start being a hard team to play against, and get back to what we were successful at the last couple of years."
…can you say buyer's remorse? I love Girardi, but is he kidding me? I thought you guys didn't like the system for success from the last couple of years, which is why you and your teammates ran to Sather asking for a change. Sorry, no refunds. Looking back isn't going to help. This team needs to look at what's in front of them and figure it the hell out.
…during the offseason, I was concerned that a player like Girardi, who was so successful in Torts' shot blocking, tough defending system, would regress in a more open style. Looks like my concerns were valid as both Girardi and McD have looked lost so far this season.
…or maybe it's just the new visor Girardi is playing with.
Girardi also added this (via New York Post)…
“I can’t tell you why what’s happening is happening. The system we have now is real simple, it’s not some crazy thing that’s so different from what we’re used to.
“But for whatever reason, we seem to be lost.”
…too many questions and not enough answers coming from this team and coaching staff right now.
…and one point on Torts. Sure he'd probably have blown a gasket by now if he was still coaching this team, but with the way the players apparently tuned him out and grew tired of his system last season, do you really think one of his post game tirades would really have a positive impact? Doubtful. So what I'm trying to say is, this is all on the players right now.
