If you follow the blog, you know how much I pumped up Brandon Mashinter before the Rangers recalled him last month.
So you can imagine my disappointment with his lackluster performance during his four games with the Blueshirts. He looked tentative and lacked the aggressiveness that made him a standout with the Whale. To be honest he just looked overwhelmed by the NHL experience and I don't blame the Rangers at all for re-assigning him back to the Whale.
The only thing that makes me more upset than his disappointing play with the Rangers, is his superb play with the Whale since re-joining them.
In the six games since the demotion, Mashinter has 2g, 2a is a +3 and has two fights, including this one in which he stands up for teammate Benn Ferriero, who is absolutely freight trained Friday night by a Binghamton defender…
…ugh!!!!! Where was this Mashinter when the Rangers called him up. If he played half this good with the Blueshirts he'd still be on the team. Now, unfortunately for him, with Haley coming up and doing the things Mashinter wasn't able to, I highly doubt we're going to see the scrappy youngster again this season. Which is a shame.
