Flyers 2, Rangers 1

The New York Rangers (2-6-0) lost to the Philadelphia Flyers (2-7-0) by the score of 2-1, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.

…i don't even know what to think at this point. I'm beyond angry. I'm almost bewildered. The Rangers are currently a harder team to watch than to play against. I guess the effort was better. But when you're playing one of the worst teams in the league, that's going to happen anyway. Although, the Rangers are also one of the worst teams in the league, so who knows.

…and please don't anyone give me the injuries excuse. The Senators won last year without Spezza, Karlsson, Anderson & Michalek. Injuries aren't a time for excuses it's a time for others to step up!

…unfortunately, the players who should be stepping forward and taking on the challenge have let the team and this fan base down.

…and the biggest culprit right now is Stepan. He had almost a full week in between games to get himself fully acclimated to AV's system and he looked more lost than ever out there. I know playing without Nash is going to hurt his game, but, if he's a true #1 center, it's his job to make everyone around him better.

…i've joked about Arniel being the reason for Brassard's struggles, but maybe this is who he is and why Columbus was so willing to dump him in Sather's lap.

…on a positive note, I thought Talbot was outstanding tonight. Cool and calm. AV should have no problem using him to spell Lundqvist moving forward this season.

…talk about the hockey God's evening things out. Are any of Richards' goals legit this year? BTW, with Richards being the only goal scorer tonight, the Rangers still have just three forward with goals this season.

…of all the disappointments tonight, the biggest was Mashinter getting just 4:22 of ice time, including not a second of action after his fight late in the second period. A player finally shows a spark and his reward? A seat on the bench. Unreal.

…with the way things have been going, I don't think there was a single Rangers fan who thought Miller's goal was going to count. He might not have meant to kick it in, but it sure looked like he did.

…very active game from Kreider, but didn't generate enough offensive chances to make me feel good about his performance.

…Michael Del Zotto is just not a very good hockey player.

…assuming AV just allowed the leaders to take care of the room after the game.

…saw a glimpse of the old Girardi tonight.

…so how soon into the home opener will the "Messier" chants start?

…i've seen way worse hits from behind than what Pouliot did tonight, but you're just asking for trouble when you shove a guy from behind near the boards. On the bright side hopefully he'll be suspended.

…coincidence that Richards goal came a minute and a half after Dorsett finally stuck up for a teammate? I think not.

…Staal is pointless with a -9 rating the last six games. Might want to schedule a follow-up appointment on that eye.

…the Rangers are only one point ahead of the last place Sabres in the Eastern Conference.

…as was the problem under Torts this team doesn't drive to the net. Ever. I remember in camp, AV was emphasizing players crashing the goal crease, but I've yet to see it this season. The only way to get out of this right now is to start scoring some ugly goals. Get traffic in front, throw the puck at the net and outwork your opponent for the puck. That has to be the recipe for success right now.

…i still don't think a trade is the answer either. But talk to me in a week.

…things aren't going to get any better as the Rangers head to Detroit for a date with the Red Wings on Saturday likely without Lundqvist in goal again.

Flyers 2, Rangers 1

The New York Rangers (1-3-0) lost to the Philadelphia Flyers (1-3-0) by the score of 2-1, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

…Serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, SERENITY NOW!!!!!

…ok, now that I've gotten that out of the way, what the eff is wrong with this team? No passion, no intensity, no resiliency. Where's the battle level? This is beyond silly mistakes being made because of rust. Remember last year when this team did things the "right way?"

…when you can't beat the Flyers "JV" squad, who shockingly came out with no urgency, you know you have issues. BTW, that was the stalest Rangers/Flyers game in years.

…you know what might help this team? Scoring on a 5-on-3. Wait, the Rangers would actually need someone with a halfway decent point shot to do that.

…didn't think it was possible for a defenseman and power play point man to play almost 24 minutes and not register a shot on goal. I'm looking at you Mr. Del Zotto.

…Tortorella teams are known for being in superior shape. Could it be that the lack of a training camp has severely hampered the players ability to succeed in his high intensity system?

…guess Gabby-Richards-Nash blew their load last night. Combined one point and three shots on goal.

…at least this Taylor Pyatt guy seems to be working out.

…i know, no training camp, blah, blah blah. Stop giving the puck away in the defensive zone!

…Bickel gets a one-week pass from all criticism on this blog for sticking up for Halpern and then dropping Tom "Fantasy Camp" Sestito.

…got to love the Rangers new faceoff specialist Halpern stapled to the bench in the final minute as Richards loses faceoff after faceoff.

…is it me or is McDonagh a little off to start the season?

…while he's not getting much ice time, Eminger's been real solid. Would like to see him get more minutes to take pressure off Girardi & McD.

…did the Rangers really only score one goal on "The Universe?"

…wonder what Kreider learned up in the press box tonight, you know, other than it's painful to watch this team right now.

…thought Lundqvist had problems with rebound control tonight. Was amazing other than that though.

…having said all that, it's still just four games. Rangers started slow last season and won the Division. Although, not sure Torts will be bringing back Sean Avery to turn things around again.

…off tomorrow then Maple Leafs at MSG on Saturday.
