Five or Six Teams Have Inquired About Del Zotto

During last night's episode of TSN's Insider Trading (H/T Spector's Hockey), Darren Dreger reported that that at least five or six teams have inquired about trade scenarios for Michael Del Zotto.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN added that one of the teams interested could be the Ottawa Senators who are in the market for a puck moving defenseman and Del Zotto is on their radar.

…this is the third Del Zotto trade rumor in the last few weeks, so you have to assume where there's smoke there's fire.

…if Ottawa is in fact interested in Del Zotto, one guy the Rangers should absolutely look into obtaining is Milan Michalek. While he's had a tough time scoring this season (3g), he had 40 goals just two years ago and would be a nice fit on the left wing. One warning sign with Michalek is that he missed almost all of last season with a knee injury, although, he did score five points (3g, 2a) in 10 postseason games last year.

…the 28-year old Michalek is in the final year of his contract which pays him $4.33M this season, so the Rangers would have to make some room to bring him in (waive Pouliot & Pyatt?). I also don't think Ottawa would do a one-for-one for Del Zotto, so the Rangers might also have to give up a pick and/or prospect, which could be too steep for a player who could bolt this offseason.

…another Sens player who the Rangers might be able to do a one- for-one for is Chris Neil. I think he brings an attitude this team is missing and his addition could give the Rangers the same spark the Sean Avery trade did back in 2007.
