Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Jesper Fast skated with the Rangers for the first time today on a line with Brian Boyle and Taylor Pyatt.
…talk about trying to stunt a guy's scoring. Fast is supposed to be an exciting offensive threat with a ton of speed and Torts puts him on a line with these two slugs?
Despite Fast skating today, John Tortorella said this about Fast appearing at practice (via Blueshirts United)…
"We just want to take a look at him. I had a chance to talk with him before practice, just to say hello. The ony thought process today was that we wanted to look at him. I don't think he had skated since (last) Wednesday out in Hartford. We had a scheduled practice today and it gave us an opportunity for us to take a look at him also."
Fast, who was wearing #12, has been skating with the CT Whale this week.
Here's a pic of Fast (middle gray jersey) from practice today (via Daily News)…
…so Torts can't trust Kreider who has 18 playoff games under his belt or Miller who has played in 26 regular season NHL games, but might trust a rookie who has no experience playing in North America? Makes sense. I know Torts said they just want to "look" at Fast, but they could have just "looked" at him skating on his own or with the Whale. Could be more to it.
…actually, unless Fast really impressed Torts at practice I can't imagine the Rangers throw him to the wolves like that tomorrow. Most likely back to Whale.
Here were the lines, minus Carl Hagelin, who was given a maintenance day, (via Gross)….
